"I Wanted To Challenge Myself" - Former WarioWare Director Talks Life After Nintendo

Wario Where?Earlier this year, Nintendo veteran and WarioWare legend Goro Abe announced that he was leaving the company and taking up a teaching post at the Osaka Electro-Communication University. Roughly seven months on, VGC got the chance to chat with the dev about his post-Nintendo life, and, rather expectedly, games are still very much on his mind.“Making games takes a lot of time, and I knew that based on my age and career that I could not make that many more games in the future,” Abe told VGC. “And I wanted to challenge myself to do other stuff. So I thought it would be interesting to do things that I had never done before, and that’s why I decided to go into teaching.”Read the full article on nintendolife.com

Mini Review: KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (Switch 2)

A bit of a sleeper. In the lead-up to Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix needed some fresh content to rebuild interest in the franchise after it had been dormant for years outside of mobile games. After porting over the collections of most of the earlier games to more modern platforms, the company then decided to squeeze out one last collection to hoover up the stragglers into one package. Dubbed Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, the value proposition on this one is undeniably lesser, but there’s still plenty to love about it.The core of this release is Kingdom Hearts 3D, the 3DS spinoff that acted as the first chronological sequel to Kingdom Hearts 2 and the prelude to the series finale. Here, you play as both Sora and Riku in a tag-team sort of adventure where the two are given the shared assignment of awakening various Sleeping Worlds to complete the Mark of Mastery exam and officially step up as Keyblade Masters.Read the full article on nintendolife.com

Mini Review: KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- (Switch 2)

Not a cloud in sight. The Kingdom Hearts series has a long and storied history with Nintendo handhelds dating back all the way to the GBA, though (debatably) there have never been any mainline titles developed for them. The ultimate monkey's paw then curled with the Switch, when Square Enix answered fan wishes to port over remastered collections, but they were delivered as icky cloud games.Luckily the company has since seen the error of its ways, and it's now released native versions for Switch 2 that deliver the full and proper experience, starting strong with Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMix.Read the full article on nintendolife.com

Review: The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Remastered (Switch 2) - A Huge Upgrade For An All-Time Great

Rivi-awesome.Getting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to run on the original Nintendo Switch was an achievement in itself. Some obvious concessions had to be made, especially surrounding the visuals. Character models looked rather murky and the foliage around our protagonist Geralt had to be drastically toned down. With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered, that issue has mostly been resolved. Thanks to the increased power of the Switch 2, this adventure has never looked better. Although some performance inconsistencies remain and a few combat overhauls not having as much of an impact as hoped, this is the definitive version of one of the best RPGs of all time.Read the full article on nintendolife.com

Review: Minecraft Dungeons II (Switch 2) - A Fun But Flawed Dungeon-Crawling Sequel With Great Co-Op

Creepers, Skellies, oh my.A traditional adventure format seems an ill fit for something as freeform as Minecraft. The Markus 'Notch' Persson-created global phenomenon is an experience built on creativity with endless scope for experimentation, so constricting it within the boundaries of genre seems misguided. That said, the franchise has enough cultural pull that it drove audiences to brandish wild animals in movie theatres, so there is clear versatility in this IP.Minecraft Dungeons spun off from the main game in 2020 as a Diablo-like dungeon crawler brimming with character-building potential and co-operative fun for all ages. It boasts the polygonal art style and iconography beloved by fans, presenting a simple yet satisfying loot-based RPG experience. The sequel expands on this formula further by moving from episodic progression to open-world exploration and adding more depth to the basic combat and traversal loop.Read the full article on nintendolife.com
