Star Wars: Galactic Racer Review – It’s not a WipEout for Star Wars

To quote Tom Grennan: "There's something in the water". This must certainly be the case in Star Wars HQ, because while the films have most certainly fallen from grace, there seems to be a resurgence in the games. We had a genuinely good game in Star Wars Zero Company, and now we're avoiding a total WipEout with Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Before I go on, there needs to be a rule in the sex dungeons of Disney that's passed out when Mickey gets out the whip - colon or no colon, and I don't mean the body part. The writer […]

Crimson Desert Mod Gives Pywel 4 Live-Changing Seasons, As Pearl Abyss Stays Locked on Charting The Unknown

Pearl Abyss made plenty of improvements to Crimson Desert since its launch this March, but modders haven't been idle, and have introduced a lot of significant improvements and new features, including a massive world editor that turns the game into a real sandbox. As the Korean developer is continuing to work on the Charting The Unknown expansion, which will launch on October 29, another modder released a key mod that makes the entire experience way more immersive with stunning-looking seasons that change as you play and come with their own unique mechanics. "Pywel gets four seasons. They follow the in-game […]

Sony Reportedly Wants Ape Escape Back After 16 Years, Though Japan Studio No Longer Exists and Asobi Isn’t Involved

According to insider Nate The Hate, Sony may be about to revive one of its long-dormant IPs. On ResetEra, a user noted that Ape Escape had been hinted at by two different sources and wondered whether Nate knew anything. The insider's reply was cryptic at first: As I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises. However, Nate The Hate quickly followed up with a few more breadcrumbs. Asked whether Team Asobi was involved, he answered simply that it wasn't being made by the Astro Bot studio. And on whether Bandai Namco had a hand […]

GTA 6 Lets Jason and Lucia Become Lovers or Just Friends, But Rockstar Won’t Let Players Break The Duo Up

Game Informer's new cover story on GTA 6 has delivered arguably the biggest single dump of official details since the game's reveal, covering everything from Jason and Lucia's relationship system to a new police Heat system, hurricanes, and the game's absurdly detailed wildlife. Rockstar's Art Director Aaron Garbut admits the expectations surrounding the game are unprecedented and that the studio doesn't take them lightly. Its answer, apparently, was to try to overdeliver – a tall order for the most anticipated game of all time. America Dialed Up to 11 Garbut describes Florida, the main inspiration for Leonida, as "America dialed […]

Sony’s Daniel Craig Says PlayStation 5 QSSR Is A Drop-In PSSR Replacement, As Retrofits Need Just Days Of Tuning

Yesterday, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 AI-powered QSSR upscaler, a performance-focused version of the PlayStation 5 Pro PSSR upscaler that will reduce the gap between the base system and the mid-generation refresh, which is also the most powerful current-generation system. Following the launch of the upscaler in Ghost of Yōtei and Marvel's Wolverine, the upscaler is likely going to see widespread adoption in already released games, judging from what Daniel Craig, Principal Engineer for Graphics R&D at SIE told Digital Foundry. "QSSR is fundamentally a drop-in replacement for titles that already support PSSR," Craig explained. "That said, tuning game settings takes a bit more time, perhaps a few […]

Naughty Dog Is Reportedly Making a New Uncharted, Not a Remake, and Nathan Drake Will Return in Some Capacity

Following Naughty Dog's update shared by President Neil Druckmann on The Last of Us Day 2026, rumors that the studio is already working on a new Uncharted game are intensifying. Druckmann did not mention anything about Uncharted, but he did say the two upcoming The Last of Us projects are in the very early stages of development, and we've known that a team led by Shaun Escayg has been making a game unrelated to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for some time now. Everyone immediately thought of a new Uncharted, especially after he teased a "research photo" that looked a lot […]

The Coalition Fears Xbox’s Axe Will Fall After Gears of War: E-Day, and They’re Worried About Losing Metacritic Bonus, Too

According to a report published today by Eurogamer, developers at Canadian studio The Coalition fear that Xbox's axe will fall on them shortly after the launch of Gears of War: E-Day (which is out today for owners of the Premium Edition, while the official release is set for October 6). Over the summer, the studio had largely been spared from Microsoft's massive cuts, and the prevailing internal feeling was cautious optimism that Xbox remained invested in its long-term future. According to Eurogamer, that feeling abruptly changed this month. Last week, Juan Vaca (Gears of War: E-Day's story director) announced he […]

Sony Brings PS5 Pro-style AI Upscaling to the Base PS5, as QSSR Narrows the Gap with its Pricier Sibling

Sony has announced that a new AI upscaler called Quick Spectral Super Resolution is available now on PlayStation 5, with two of the most recent first-party exclusives (Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei) already patched to take advantage of the new upscaler. QSSR is essentially a performance-focused tier of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is only available on PS5 Pro. According to Sony, QSSR has been created as part of the Project Amethyst collaboration with AMD, and benefits from a streamlined neural network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation that maximizes performance on PS5. Mike Fitzgerald, Head of Technology at […]

Sony Quietly Launched A New PlayStation 5 Model, As Key Changes Ensure System Longevity

Since the system's launch in 2020, Sony has released multiple PlayStation 5 models. The smaller hardware revisions of the original base model were eventually replaced by the PS5 Slim model, which also saw a few revisions to address issues, liquid metal cooling chief among them. The latest of these revisions has just been quietly launched, and the silence is rather surprising, as this new model comes with a refreshed motherboard featuring several critical changes. "Sony quietly refreshed the PS5 Slim again and this one is much more interesting than it looks," said console and controller technician @Modyficator89 on X. "We […]

Gears of War: E-Day Review – A Step Back in More Ways Than Just the Timeline

It's been over seven years since Vancouver-based studio The Coalition released its last game, Gears 5. According to a 2023 rumor by Jeff Grubb, that's because the developers canceled two unannounced side projects before focusing on Gears of War: E-Day. That's a long time for any studio, and especially so for one owned and funded by Xbox, which chose it to shepherd the Gears franchise after the split with Epic Games and is now also positioning it as a rare Xbox console exclusive. So far, The Coalition has done fairly well, or at least better than 343 Industries with Halo. […]

Kena: Scars of Kosmora Slips Into 2027, as Ember Lab Details Its Elemental Island and a Crystalline Canine Mount

Kena: Scars of Kosmora won't be arriving in 2026 as originally hoped by its creators. In a new PlayStation Blog post, Ember Lab's Game Writer Thomas Varga and COO Josh Grier confirmed that the studio is pushing the sequel's release into 2027, and shared a closer look at its story and setting to soften the blow. The reasoning is the same as what we’ve heard countless other times from other studios: Ember Lab says it wants to deliver a game that exceeds the quality of its 2021 debut, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, at a much larger scale, and needs a […]

CD Projekt Red Drops First Lighting Adjustments For The Witcher 3 Remastered, While a New Mod Makes Settings Tuning Painless

The Witcher 3 Remastered launched earlier this week to introduce improved graphics, new features, such as path tracing support on PC (which requires some optimization to run more smoothly on most systems), and a slew of gameplay changes that made many return to the Continent ahead of the release of the Songs of the Past expansion next year. However, the launch of the new version of the game hasn't been very smooth, and CD Projekt Red has already dropped the first update to address some issues, while modders are continuing their own work to improve one of the best role-playing […]

PlayStation 6 Handheld Leak Points to N3P Node, As Sony Reportedly Chases True Portability Over Bulky Rivals

Following the release of the original Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck, handheld gaming devices have become all the rage, and every manufacturer seems interested in having a device available on the market. As Nintendo doubled down with the Nintendo Switch 2, Sony is reportedly re-entering the portable gaming device market it has abandoned since the days of the PlayStation Vita, and it seems like the Japanese company is serious about delivering a proper portable experience with the PlayStation 6 handheld, as the Canis APU will be produced on the power-efficient N3P node. "I saw that the PlayStation 6 portable […]

CAPCOM Quietly Greenlit Several Resident Evil Projects, But a Resident Evil 5 Remake Won’t Arrive for at Least 5 Years

CAPCOM's Resident Evil series is as popular as it has ever been, and the smashing success of Resident Evil Requiem and the recent movie directed by Zach Cregger suggest that the Japanese developer won't slow down with new projects anytime soon. While work continues on Resident Evil Veronica, the Japanese publisher is looking ahead to the future of the franchise, which, at this time, doesn't seem to include remaking the final two numbered entries in the series that remain. "Not true as far as I know," said known insider Dusk Golem on X in response to a rumor circulating online […]

Borderless Gaming’s DLSS 5 Implementation Runs Without Touching NVIDIA’s Software, Quantized to Work Well Even on Unsupported GPUs

The popular Borderless Gaming Steam app has been updated with two major features over the last week: Frame Generation and DLSS 5 Neural Rendering. The Frame Generation feature works on a custom general purpose implementation that, according to author Andrew Sampson (also known as the creator of the streaming technology Rainway), was trained on "tens of thousands of hours of gameplay" and requires no game modification to work. As for DLSS 5 NR, like FG, it relies on BGFX, a mode introduced earlier this year that captures game windows at the compositor level and processes them through a GPU effect […]

However, the studio is also working on a yet to be announced game, which has a good chance of being a new entry in the Alan Wake series, considering who is involved in the development of this unannounced game. As reported on ResetEra, Remedy Entertainment developer Kyle Rowley revealed on LinkedIn that they are co-directing […]

Bethesda Maps Fallout 76’s Biggest Year Yet, Expanding the Map toward Fallout 3’s Capital Wasteland by Summer 2027

During a recent press preview event that we at Wccftech were able to attend, Bethesda Game Studios has outlined the next year of Fallout 76, beginning with the episodic Slasher mystery (already out) and moving through the December World Pets update, Spring 2027’s Hideouts, and a Summer 2027 expansion toward the Capital Wasteland. The studio also discussed a longer technical roadmap that goes beyond the recently added PS5 Pro support with further console upscaling options and PC rendering upgrades, although those planned enhancements haven't been dated yet. Bethesda's Exciting Yearly Roadmap Setting the stage, Creative Director Jon Rush described the […]

Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown Has Been Delayed, But Its New October 29 Date Sparks a Harder Choice

The massive Crimson Desert will become even bigger next month, as Pearl Abyss is hard at work on the Charting the Unknown expansion, which was officially announced during the September PlayStation State of Play presentation. Unfortunately, the expansion, which will see Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka embark on some maritime adventures, has been delayed from its original release date. Although short, the timing is unfortunate, as the expansion will collide with what is set to be one of the biggest releases of the year: S-Game's Phantom Blade Zero. "Hello, Greymanes. We are hard at work on Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the […]

The Witcher 3 Remastered Crushes GPUs With Path Tracing, but Free Mod Claws Back Up to 30% Performance

Following its surprise announcement during this year's gamescom Opening Night Live, The Witcher 3 Remastered is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While the number of improvements to gameplay is staggering and well thought out, what most were looking forward to was the visual uplift, which includes very demanding path tracing support on PC. Thankfully, a mod has already come to the rescue, as it did after the launch of the Next-Gen update, optimizing both ray tracing and path tracing for better performance with minimal loss of quality. CONTROL Resonant Fixes Its Biggest Missed Opportunity on PC, as 2 Mods Deliver the Combat Depth Remedy Skipped

With CONTROL Resonant, Remedy Entertainment took a significant risk, changing the third-person shooter formula of its predecessor to a melee combat experience reminiscent of character action games like Capcom's Devil May Cry. While the transition was successful for the most part, the game doesn't feature some of the mechanics that make the Capcom series such a stellar franchise, but on PC, it is now possible to tweak the experience with two excellent mods in a way that will make players feel like they may be controlling Dante or Nero, instead of Dylan Faden. The first of these two new mods […]

Astro Bot Runs Up to 5x Faster in Custom KyTyPS5 Fork, as Marvel’s Wolverine Goes In-Game Two Weeks After Launch

The KyTyPS5 PlayStation 5 emulator is advancing so fast that it's actually becoming hard to keep up with. Barely a few weeks ago, we covered the emulator getting Grand Theft Auto V's PS5 build running, and floated the half-joking possibility that Grand Theft Auto VI might end up playable on PC through emulation before Rockstar ships an official port. Days later, Demon's Souls Remake leaped from 2 FPS to between 10 and 18 FPS in a single day, and Astro Bot booted into gameplay for the first time, albeit at only around 11 FPS and with major rendering issues. Xbox Finally Answers PlayStation’s Platinum Trophies with Mythic Achievements, Closing a Nearly 20-Year Feature Gap

The rumors were true: at last, Xbox is adding Mythic Achievements, the equivalent of PlayStation's Platinum Trophies. For those unfamiliar with the mechanics, this is an extra achievement that is unlocked only after completing all of a game's base Achievements. The Xbox Wire blog post calls it one of the community's most requested features, and indeed, it had been a strange omission. As you can imagine, it's extra motivation to complete all Achievements (or Trophies) available for a game, thus spending more time with the title. It was especially weird because the Xbox Achievements system launched on November 22, 2005 […]

Injecting DLSS 5 Into The Witcher 3 Remastered Gives Geralt a Much-Needed Facelift, but Costs Up to 30% Performance

In my impressions piece on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, I discussed how path tracing greatly enhances the visuals of CD Projekt RED's open world action RPG masterpiece, aided by the standard NVIDIA DLSS suite: Super Resolution, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction. However, I thought it would be an interesting experiment to check how the newest and most controversial piece of DLSS, the 3D-Guided Neural Rendering also known simply as DLSS 5, would fare when added to the game. To clarify: there is no official DLSS 5 implementation for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, […]

Indie CEO Torches GTA 6 Economics: “Rockstar Must Sell to Every Console Owner to Hit our ROI at 30K Units”

Blazej Zywiczynski, the Chief Executive Officer of indie developer Fairy Mount Games, has no qualms in throwing down the gauntlet against Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6, as evidenced in an interview with GamesIndustry. Fairy Mount Games was founded in 2025 by Zywiczynski and Denis Comtesse, who previously worked on games such as Frostpunk, This War of Mine, Ghostrunner, Lords of the Fallen, No Rest for the Wicked, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, among others. ArcheAge S Kills Fixed Classes and Crafting-Only Gear after the Original’s Economy Collapsed Under Scarcity and Pay-to-Win

Following last month's announcement, Kakao Games has made good on its promise to unveil ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom, which it billed as a true sequel to 2013's MMORPG ArcheAge. As you might recall, ArcheAge 2 was announced a few years ago, but it later morphed into Chronicles, which focuses more on action-adventure gameplay and small-scale online elements. This irked many fans of the original title, and Strait of Freedom would like to be the answer to their pleas, although it is clearly different in at least some fundamental ways. In the first developer diary, the team behind ArcheAge S: […]

Naughty Dog Confirms Two New The Last of Us Sequel Projects, Delays Full Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Unveiling to 2027

For The Last of Us Day 2026 (the annual date that "celebrates" the in-game outbreak of the Cordyceps infection), Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann delivered a couple of interesting news tidbits about the Californian studio's projects. To begin with, Druckmann officially confirmed the upcoming The Last of Us "things" he had previously teased: Since Grounded II, we’ve talked about the possibility of telling more stories in the world of The Last of Us. We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can’t say much about them at this point. I will tell […]

Sony Reportedly Balked at PHYSINT’s Ballooning Budget, but Xbox Scooped up Kojima for Far Less than the Reported $400 Million

Following the startling news that Sony had dropped its partnership with Hideo Kojima on the new MGS-inspired IP PHYSINT, and the equally unexpected discovery that the game had been saved by Sony's rival platform, Xbox, it was reported that the project's budget was among Sony's chief concerns leading to this choice. In the latest episode of The Game Business show, Chris Dring claimed that the budget was around $400 million. However, two sources have since disputed Dring's claim. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier replied in the ResetEra thread, having heard from an Xbox contact that they are investing "significantly less than that": I am hesitant to get into […]
